Seminar Abstract

Body perception for interactions

Speaker : Dr Regine Zopf, Cognitive Science, Macquarie University.
Date : 31st of July 2018, 12:00PM until 1:00PM
Location : Australian Hearing Hub, 3.610, Macquarie University.

For efficient and safe interactions with the world our brain needs to constantly update the state of one’s own body as well as the characteristics of multiple surrounding objects. In this talk I will present studies in which we investigated body perception mechanisms and neural representations that have the potential to support bodily interactions. Furthermore, I will present research testing how such mechanisms might be affected in Anorexia Nervosa which is linked to body perception disturbances. Overall, I will show that general visual as well as body-specific multisensory mechanisms have the potential to shape our bodily interactions with external objects and that multisensory mechanisms are changed in Anorexia Nervosa.
