Profile

I completed my Bachelor of Science (Advanced Mathematics) (Honours) in 2001 at the University of Sydney, working within the Department of Theoretical Physics with Prof Peter Robinson. My honours project involved manipulating a computational model of brain dynamics to account for the phenomena of a split alpha peak in EEG spectra, which is seen in a small percent of the general population.

After some time spent in various other fields, I realised that research, particularly of the brain, is really where my passion is, and so began a PhD part-time in February 2013 with A/Prof Blake Johnson and Prof Bill Thompson. My PhD project is looking at musical imagery and the brain. Firstly, I am developing novel tasks that both induce and then test musical imagery of pitch and rhythm separately. These tasks will then be used to investigate, through MEG, the neural activity associated with musical imagery in adults, and how this compares to perception. A person's musical experience/training and auditory imagery vividness is expected to impact on their ability to successfully imagine music.
